This is a part time hourly paid fixed term contract until 5th June 18.5 hours per week. The Graduate Assistant Technician’s role is primarily to assist & support students in the fine art studios, working with the Technical Services team in their running of Fine Art facilities and teaching sessions in the School of Arts. The post holder will have a high commitment to customer service as well as a flexible and multi-skilled approach.
Team working and the provision of customer-focused services in a practice based environment are important aspects of the role. The post holder is also required to be flexible in his / her approach to duties. Training in the use of specialist equipment will be provided if necessary, but the successful post holder will work in their specialist subject area and be required to have the broad range of skills and knowledge relevant to supporting practitioners in the Art subject area.
- Prepare equipment and facilities for student use, supporting students working in studios and workshop areas.
- Answer technical queries and provide guidance where appropriate.
- Support recruitment, outreach and widening participation work undertaken by the School of Arts, Culture and Environment, including Open Day events.
- Undertake any health and safety control measures associated with the use of equipment by students and staff.
- Ensure that spaces conform to Health and Safety standards at all times.
- Work unsupervised and use own initiative to support students and members of staff as required.
- Ensure we are creating an inclusive environment for staff and students.
