Flexible working: Primarily office‑based due to sensitive nature, but flexible working arrangements are supported, including flexitime, full‑time, part‑time, or compressed hours.

The role

As a Telephony Infrastructure Engineer, you will keep the UK Government connected when it matters most. You will work across classified telephony platforms—including call gateways, enterprise media, and transcription services—to ensure services remain resilient, compliant, and ready for anything. You will engineer improvements, resolve complex cross‑domain issues, and collaborate with partners and suppliers.

You will be part of a collaborative team of experts, and as capability develops you may be eligible for a skill payment at Infrastructure Engineering Level 1 or above. Once training is complete, you may join the optional on‑call rota for additional pay. Occasional overseas travel may be required.

About you

No specific qualifications are required. You will have experience in telephony infrastructure and a solid understanding of networking and the support and maintenance of voice and unified communications (UC) systems—whether gained through formal training or practical experience.

  • Experience with Cisco technologies is highly beneficial.
  • Strong focus on customer experience, sound judgement, and the ability to deliver well‑reasoned solutions.
  • Good administration skills and general Windows and Linux experience.
  • Curiosity, proactive mindset, independence, and reliable results.
  • Clear, confident communication and the ability to influence and collaborate with stakeholders.
Training and development

We invest in professional development. From day one you will receive induction and a defined training pathway with a mentor. Over a 2–3 year placement you will develop toward Infrastructure Engineering Level 2, with internal and external training, including opportunities for Cisco and other certifications.

Rewards and benefits
  • 25 days annual leave (rises to 30 days after 5 years) plus an additional 10.5 days public and privilege holidays.
  • Employee performance scheme.
  • Interest‑free season ticket loan.
  • Cycle to work scheme.
  • Gym, restaurant, and on‑site coffee bars (at some locations).
  • Paid parental and adoption leave.
