Job Description
The Senior Financial Accountant (Technical Accounting) will take on responsibility for delivery of all aspects of statutory accounts reporting, overseeing the company's financial controls, external reporting, VAT compliance, and effective financial management. The holder will be hands‑on in their management, ensuring delivery as required by the annual reporting deadlines to Group as well as external audit reporting requirements; alongside supporting improvements and efficiencies in the month end processes and ways of working.
The role supports strategic decision‑making by providing timely, accurate financial information and insight, while managing and developing the finance function. This will include process improvement and transformation activities as the finance function delivers on its transformation programme.
Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities Statutory Accounts and Audit- Support Group Finance and the Financial Controller by producing statutory accounts in accordance with UK GAAP / IFRS for all UK&I entities.
- Lead the General Financial Accounting team to achieve the audit timetable, providing support on transactional and technical matters.
- Act as a key point of contact for the external Audit team to plan and execute audit work – remote and onsite.
- Be the in‑house expert on technical accounting matters relating to new and existing transactions undertaken by the business, especially in P&L and balance sheet items in your immediate scope (non‑current assets/liabilities and equity).
- Prepare and review monthly balance sheet and cashflow. This includes reconciliations, variance analysis, commentary and liaising with the Commercial Finance Team (Finance Business Partners and FP&A).
- Identify and support the maintenance of the risks and opportunities schedule on the balance sheet through the course of the financial year.
- Lead the consolidation of the UK&I business through the One Stream tool, including intercompany eliminations, IFRS adjustments and bridge from management reporting.
- Ensure compliance with UK statutory requirements, including Companies Act obligations.
- Oversee VAT returns, support on corporation tax calculations, and liaison with HMRC.
- Maintain strong financial controls, policies and procedures across the business.
- Support the Financial Controller and Head of Transformation to execute the program of transformation activities to reduce month end timelines and continuously improve processes and procedures, while improving quality.
- A key stakeholder of the Oracle Fusion and One Stream finance systems, ensuring ongoing improvements, while identifying other automation opportunities.
The role requires co‑ordinating or supervising employees across the technical accounts team within GFA, including direct and indirect line management of qualified and trainee accountants. This will include:
- Manage, engage and motivate the team to deliver all aspects identified above.
- Coach and build skills in‑house to reduce need for external advice and support.
- Act as a key report to the Financial Controller, and work alongside the Management Accounting team, as well as wider finance including the Commercial finance team, Accounts Payable, Associate Pay and Banking.
- Drive performance management culture within the team ensuring all colleagues have a clear career pathway, development plans and objectives.
- Qualified Accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA)
- Experience in a practice environment with strong knowledge of UK accounting standards and tax requirements
- Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Strong leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Results driven with the ability to deliver to tight deadlines in a fast‑paced business.
- Proactive, hands‑on, and controls first mindset.
- Advanced Excel skills; experience with accounting/ERP systems.
- Previous role leading external or internal audit.
Experience in PE environment, ideally healthcare or similar industry.
Experience using Oracle Fusion ERP system.
