Role Overview
Senior Project Accountant within the Project Accounts team, responsible for delivering financial support for the Trust’s £60m Capital Programme, developing the long‑term capital financial plan and producing detailed financial and non‑financial reporting for capital assets.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare business cases, financial forecasts and monthly reporting for capital projects, ensuring accurate calculation of capital charges and depreciation journals in line with the monthly close timetable.
- Lead the annual and long‑term capital planning processes and complete the Trust’s Annual Accounts for capital, maintaining detailed working papers and audit trails.
- Manage the fixed‑asset and lease registers, including IFRS
16 reporting, revaluations, impairments, disposals and reconciliations. - Oversee the monitoring and reporting of capital programme expenditure, producing monthly project progress reports and budget statements.
- Review and reconcile the financial ledger to ensure accurate representation of capital projects, investigating and correcting variances.
- Supervise the Finance Manager and Finance Analyst in month‑end activities, including the entry of journals and adherence to the agreed timetable.
- Support the Project Accountant in securing additional capital funding, drawing down funds and providing timely information to the Head of Financial Services.
- Develop and maintain business cases, investment decisions and financial models (e.g., NPV) to support capital proposals, ensuring alignment with national and local initiatives.
- Act as the Trust’s expert on IFRS
16 accounting and guide staff on accounting treatment and governance processes. - Manage staff reporting to the role, including appraisals, training, development, workload allocation and disciplinary matters.
- CCAB or CIMA qualified; degree level or equivalent experience.
- Evidence of continuing professional and personal development.
- Experience of budgetary control systems, financial analysis and interpretation of financial information.
- Strong knowledge of the NHS financial regime and accounting techniques.
- Demonstrated experience in technical capital accounting, IFRS
16 and financial modelling (options analysis, business cases). - Proven leadership skills with staff management, training and development.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel proficiency and experience with enterprise financial systems.
- Excellent organisation, time‑management, communication and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to work independently, handle pressure and meet conflicting deadlines.
- Commitment to the NHS values and the Trust’s values.
