Clinical Healthcare Support Worker

To work alongside the Nursing Manager and Nursing Team, the Consultants and wider multidisciplinary team to determine and deliver on service strategic objectives and to promote the overarching vision for the Ophthalmology service.

To actively work within the nursing team during the shift to ensure the clinic runs in a timely manner delivering excellent patient pathways.

To work collaboratively and cohesively with the multidisciplinary team to meet the needs of patients and their families and provide high standards of care ensuring safe and effective practice is maintained.

To prepare patients for their consultations by testing their visual acuity, checking intraocular pressure and eye drop instillation.

To assist in the treatment room as a scrub nurse during minor operations and intravitreal injection clinics.

To perform biometry on patients who have been added to the waiting list for surgery.

Take responsibility for safe and effective infection prevention and control measures.

You will be expected to work within the three Ophthalmology Outpatient Departments based at Gloucester Royal Hospital and Cheltenham General Hospital.

Additional working pattern details: rotational post between CGH/GRH.

Main duties of the job
  • Visual acuity testing.
  • Scrub nurse for intravitreal injection clinics.
  • Assisting patients with toileting as required.
  • Supporting the Nurse in Charge.
  • Working within a large multidisciplinary team.
  • Using an ophthalmology computer system.

  • Actively support in the implementation of any clinical initiative or introduction of new equipment.
  • Actively support all agreed quality improvements within the Ophthalmology service and link with other teams and services as appropriate within and outside of Trust.
Person Specification Qualifications and Training
  • Certificate in Adult Literacy and Numeracy.
  • Completion of care certificate.

  • Excellent presentation, communication and interpersonal skills.
