System Engineer

I am currently looking for a Systems Engineer for a contract role in Cheltenham.

Location: Cheltenham, 3-4 days a week on site required

End date: 12 months +

Qualification required for this role: SFIA 4-5

• Design and engineer system solutions that meet functional, non‑functional, and operational requirements
• Produce and maintain system designs, technical documentation, and interface definitions
• Support system build, configuration, integration, testing, and deployment activities

• Integrate components across infrastructure, applications, networks, and services
• Ensure systems meet security, resilience, and compliance standards
• Identify and manage technical risks, issues, and dependencies

• Support systems through transition to service and live operation
• Diagnose and resolve system issues and performance problems
• Provide technical input to change, incident, and problem management

• Translate business needs into clear technical requirements
• Work collaboratively with architects, developers, delivery managers, and suppliers
• Communicate technical concepts clearly to technical and non‑technical audiences
• Experience working as a System Engineer or in a similar technical role
• Strong understanding of system lifecycle delivery (requirements through to operations)
• Experience of system integration in complex or multi‑technology environments
• Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues
• Clear written and verbal communication skills
• Experience in cloud, hybrid, or distributed systems
• Exposure to secure, regulated, or mission‑critical environments
• Familiarity with systems engineering, enterprise architecture, or service management frameworks
• Experience working in Agile, Dev Ops, or iterative delivery models

• Degree (or equivalent experience) in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline
• Relevant technical or professional certifications (desirable)

• Analytical, structured, and detail‑oriented
• Collaborative, delivery‑focused, and proactive
• Comfortable balancing engineering quality with delivery pace
