Mandarin Language Specialist

As a Mandarin Language Specialist, you’ll use your linguistic expertise to extract key information from a range of spoken and written materials, contextualise it, and make it accessible to others. You’ll deliver accurate, informed conclusions that shape intelligence, support operations, and inform government policy. In doing so, you’ll contribute to critical activities that help keep the country safe.

• Extract key information from spoken and written language materials.
• Contextualise information and deliver accurate, informed conclusions.
• Support intelligence analysis, operations, and policy development.

• Proficient in Mandarin to at least CEFR C1 in all forms.
• Advanced active and passive language skills.
• Excellent written English.
• Pass a language proficiency test as part of the interview process.

• Flexible working options (part‑time, compressed hours).
• Annual leave starting at 25 days, increasing to 30 after five years.

Must be a British citizen or hold dual nationality with a British component. Candidates must have normally resided in the UK for seven out of the last ten years. We welcome applications from all ages; there is no upper age limit. Applicants can apply at 17, but a start date will not be offered before the 18th birthday.
