Job Summary

The College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences seeks a Clinical Assistant Professor in Social Studies Education and History within the Department of History, Anthropology, and Modern Languages and Literatures (HAMLL). The position is slated to begin in September 2026, is eligible for renewal and tenure, and will carry an expected salary of $57,525. Clinical faculty are full‑time and primarily responsible for teaching a 45‑credit load across three quarters, with additional release time for service, research, grant writing, student mentoring, and community outreach.

Job Duties
  • Teach History and Social Studies Education courses, including multiple sections of SOST 300:
    Peoples and Governance of the Pacific Northwest.
  • Participate in assessment of student learning and employ effective, concept‑based teaching strategies.
  • Develop a Faculty Activity Plan within the first quarter, integrating teaching, service, and release time as needed.
  • Engage in effective teaching and assessment of student learning; meet scheduled classes; prepare and distribute course materials; schedule and attend office hours; submit grades by established deadlines; advise declared majors; supervise laboratory and simulated learning experiences; collaborate on experiential learning activities.
Required Qualifications
  • PhD in History or a related field at the time of appointment.
  • Minimum three (3) years of recent professional teaching experience related to Social Studies Education or History.
  • College‑level teaching experience as instructor of record.
  • Ability to teach Pacific Northwest history, including government and Indigenous history.
  • Experience teaching courses in Social Studies Education.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills with diverse constituents.
  • Experience working with students from varied backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply a responsive and flexible approach that supports student, faculty, staff, and public needs, including universal access.
Preferred Qualifications
  • K‑12 teaching experience.
  • Research or teaching experience in North American History, American West History, American Indian Studies, or North American Indigenous History.
  • Experience advising students in academic settings.
  • History of actively pursuing academic research.
  • At least one year of full‑time college‑level teaching experience.

Salary and Benefits

The expected salary upon hire is $57,525.
