1:1 Teaching Assistant – Year 7 Transition Support

Location: Chepstow
Start Date: September 2026
Contract: Full-time until August 2027
Salary: £475 - £500 per week

We are looking for a confident, supportive and reliable Teaching Assistant to work 1:1 with a Year 7 pupil who is transitioning into secondary school.

This pupil does not present with behavioural needs; the support is focused on helping him build confidence, settle into the routines and expectations of high school, and feel supported with his learning across the curriculum.

The successful Teaching Assistant will act as a positive role model, providing reassurance, encouragement and practical classroom support. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is patient, approachable and able to build a strong, trusting relationship with a young person as they adjust to secondary school life.

This role would be ideal for someone who has experience supporting upper Key Stage 2 or lower Key Stage 3 pupils, particularly Year 6 or Year 7 students, and understands the importance of helping pupils feel confident and settled during the transition into secondary school.

The role will involve:
  • Supporting a Year 7 pupil on a 1:1 basis throughout the school day
  • Helping the pupil build confidence in a secondary school environment
  • Supporting with classwork, organisation and understanding tasks
  • Encouraging independence while providing reassurance where needed
  • Acting as a positive role model and consistent point of support
  • Working closely with teaching staff to ensure the pupil is accessing learning
The ideal candidate will:
  • Have experience working with children or young people
  • Be calm, encouraging and patient
  • Be confident supporting learning in a classroom setting
  • Have strong communication skills
  • Be able to build positive relationships with pupils and staff
  • Understand the importance of helping pupils develop confidence and independence

This role would suit someone who is passionate about supporting young people and making a real difference during an important stage of their education.

If you are a supportive, reliable and positive Teaching Assistant looking for a rewarding 1:1 role, we would love to hear from you.
