Robert Price Builders’ Merchants Ltd is a family run independent business, with head office in Abergavenny. We are the largest independent builders’ merchant in South East Wales.

What is a builders’ merchant?

A builders’ merchant is a company which supplies materials to the construction sector.
Up to 85% of the built environment you see around you is supplied by Britain’s builders’ merchants. Merchants and the supply chain are crucial to the construction industry which contributes over £40 billion to the UK economy each year. A career in this essential commercial sector can be challenging, varied and rewarding.

Key responsibilities
  • Dealing with sales and general customer enquiries.
  • Being responsible for the pro-active development of specified customer accounts.
  • Giving prices and quotations.
  • Processing orders.
  • General sales office administration.
  • Liaison with external representatives.
  • Include death-in-service cover, NEST pension scheme membership, uniform and boot money allowance.
  • 30 days holidays including bank holidays.
  • Discretionary bonuses.
Essential skills & experience
  • The ability to develop new business accounts, build excellent customer relationships, maximise profitable opportunities and consistently deliver a first class customer service.
  • Excellent numeracy, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Confident selling skills.
  • Good IT skills, (Excel, Outlook and Word especially), and excellent paperwork efficiency.
  • The ability to multitask, to prioritise tasks wisely and complete them in a timely manner.
  • The ability to grasp new systems quickly and follow company procedures and instructions accurately, thoroughly and methodically (training will be given in our products and systems).
  • General enthusiasm, confidence, reliability and versatility.
  • A confident, enthusiastic, proactive and friendly personality.
  • A commitment to consistently delivering first-class customer service.
  • A motivated problem solver.
  • Highly organised and reliable with good administrative efficiency.
  • Adaptable and forward-thinking with a positive approach.
  • Ability to use initiative and work well in a team as well as independently.
  • Good knowledge of building materials and their usage.
  • An interest in sales in the construction industry.
