The Immunology Department, Berkshire Surrey Pathology Services (BSPS), has a full-time BANK Biomedical Scientist (Band
5) vacancy for 8 months.
We are a busy diagnostic department based at St Peters Hospital handling over 300,000 samples per year, including many from referral hospitals. The laboratory hours are 7 am–7 pm Monday to Friday and 9 am–1 pm Saturday. You would be required to work 37.5 hours a week covering these hours on a rotational basis.
Your main role will be to be part of the team verifying three new Phadia analysers – Phadia 2500EE, Phadia 1000 and Phadia 250. Experience with any of these analysers is advantageous. You may also be trained in other laboratory areas such as flow cytometry, immunofluorescence, ELISA and protein electrophoresis, according to service need and experience.
Applicants must be HCPC state registered.
You will work primarily on the Phadia 2500EE, 1000 and 250 but may rotate with other staff across all sections of the laboratory, including autoimmune serology, allergy, protein electrophoresis and cellular.
Applicants must demonstrate an ability to work unsupervised, have knowledge of laboratory‑based computers, audits, SOPs, ISO standards, quality, and demonstrate good technical proficiency and current evidence of CPD.

Berkshire Surrey Pathology Services (BSPS) is a merged pathology network serving a population of 2 million with a workforce of 670 staff and undertaking approximately 20 million tests per year.
As this is an 8‑month bank post, your main responsibilities will be to train on the Phadia 2500EE, 1000 and 250 and participate in the verification of the new analysers. There may be an opportunity to train in other areas depending on experience and service need.
