Responsibilities
- To work according to the Code and within Trust policies.
- To be accountable for the twenty-four‑hour care delivery and management of the ward, including the supervision of students.
- To provide a clear focus for clinical leadership and be responsible for ensuring the provision of a high standard of holistic, patient‑centred care.
- To be accountable for coordinating patient care, the management of resources and performance of staff.
- To be responsible and accountable for the Finance and Human Resources issues directly related to the ward.
- To be responsible and accountable for the implementation of Audit, Quality and Risk Management initiatives.
- To promote and participate in the implementation of the ASPH Nursing & Midwifery strategy and objectives.
- To maintain a visible presence in the ward, undertaking clinical work as per roster agreement.
- To work in conjunction with the Matron / Senior ward team / Practice Educator & Learning Development Teams / Specialist teams.
- Acts as a role‑model and resource, providing information and promoting high standards of patient care, while working closely with other professionals.
- Monitors and maintains acceptable standards of care in conjunction with the multi‑disciplinary team.
- Participates and assists with adult medical emergencies utilising Immediate Life Support skills and experience where necessary; takes an active role in the management of clinical emergencies within the clinical area.
- Ensures appropriate communication and referrals occur in relation to the early intervention of the acutely ill or deteriorating patient to facilitate implementation of care.
