Deputy Sister / Charge Nurse, Care of the Elderly

To work as a team leader and deputise for the Ward Sister/Charge Nurse in line with the nursing framework and in accordance with the nursing philosophy of Ashford and St Peter's NHS Trust.
To be responsible for the assessment of patient care needs, the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care.
To promote and help to manage delivery of a quality nursing service, setting and monitoring clinical standards.
We are looking for band 6 Deputy Sister / Charge Nurse to help drive through improvement and service redesign. We are looking for staff to join us who are enthusiastic, hardworking, dedicated and have a passion for delivering the best care to all our patients. We are looking for RN nurses with an interest in elderly care, ideally with a minimum of 18 months post registration experience at Senior Band 5 or equivalent. Experience in the use of extended roles would be an advantage. Working with the multi-disciplinary team, you will need to have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to motivate and manage, adapting, driving and leading rapidly changing situations.

Main duties of the jobThe post holder responsibility:
- To promote and help to manage delivery of a quality nursing service, setting and monitoring clinical standards.
- To be responsible for the assessment of patient care needs, the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care.
- To work as a Team Leader and Deputise for the Ward Sister/Charge Nurse within the framework of team nursing based on internal night rotation and in accordance with the nursing philosophy of Ashford and St Peter's Hospitals NHS Trust.
- To take lead responsibility for co‑ordinating and facilitating the training, educational and development needs of staff
- To take lead responsibility for an area of clinical practice appropriate to the ward environment.

Jobresponsibilities
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POST:
Clinical
- Be responsible for the provision of a safe and high standard of nursing care, based on a nursing model and incorporating proven nursing research, which reflects the overall aim of the Emergency Department philosophy.
- Implement the hospitals policies and current relevant legislation as set out in the Clinical and Administrative Procedure books, complying with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct, ensuring all staff understand the relevance to clinical practice.
- Assist the Sister/Charge Nurse in providing and developing good nursing practice ensuring that said practices are in accordance with department and hospital policy.
- Assist in the establishment, monitoring and evaluation of agreed standards of patient care and quality service.
- Determine nursing priorities, planning patient care according to the skill mix of staff.
