Job summary

The Clinical Practice Educator (Maternity) will provide leadership in education, training and workforce development across maternity services, ensuring staff are equipped to deliver safe, high-quality, evidence-based care. The postholder will combine educational leadership with a significant clinical presence, supporting staff development, service improvement and patient safety through both teaching and hands-on clinical practice.

Fixed term ending on the 4th July 2027. Main duties of the job
  • Lead the development, delivery and evaluation of education and training programmes for maternity staff.
  • Support the professional development, competency achievement and career progression of midwives, student midwives and maternity support workers.
  • Maintain a visible clinical presence, providing real-time support, coaching and leadership within maternity services.
  • Facilitate simulation training, skills development, preceptorship and practice supervision activities.
  • Promote evidence-based practice, quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.
  • Monitor training compliance and support organisational requirements relating to CNST, CQC, NMC and Trust standards.

Detailed Description

The Clinical Practice Educator (Maternity) is responsible for leading education, training and workforce development initiatives to support the delivery of safe, high-quality maternity care. The role combines educational leadership with a strong clinical presence, supporting staff development, competency achievement, professional growth and the delivery of evidence-based practice across maternity services. The postholder will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to promote continuous learning, quality improvement and patient safety.

Main Responsibilities
  • Lead and deliver education and training programmes for maternity staff.

Person Specification Education and qualification Essential
  • Registered midwife
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent with evidence of further professional development.
  • Practice Assessor, Mentor or equivalent qualification
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development
  • Simulation training (e.g. PROMPT, NLS, ALSO, MOET)
Desirable
  • Postgraduate Certificate in Education (or working towards)
  • Master's degree (or working towards)
Experience Essential
  • Experience working as a Band 6 Midwife across maternity settings within a multidisciplinary team
  • Experience supporting the learning and development of staff and/or students
