Duties- Prepare materials to be used for daily projects
- Encourage positive behavior and age appropriate socialization
- Read stories, play games, and develop crafts to engage children
- Identify behavior problems and develop appropriate strategies to address them
- Efficiently communicate and coordinate with teaching assistants
- Offer individual support to students to promote the understanding of more challenging concepts during homework or learning time
- Oversee the safety of the students inside the classroom, during field trips and on the church grounds
- Efficiently communicate with the Director and Assistant Director
- Must be able to work 12:00‑6:00pm
- Basic understanding of childhood development and methods used to instruct children of various ages
- Ability to communicate with teacher's assistant and parents regarding student's behavior in the classroom
- Strong organizational skills are essential to prepare materials for planned daily lessons
- Basic writing, math and science skills are needed to aid students in homework
- Ability to manage potentially challenging behavior from students and maintain a professional and patient demeanor
- Experience supporting positive relationships with children and adults in a learning environment
- Complete all mandatory trainings as set forth by Virginia Department of Social Services

We are a ministry of Centerville Baptist Church and have been one of the longest running programs in the Chesapeake area; 66 years and counting! It is our mission for all children enrolled in the program to know they are loved by God exactly as they are. We lovingly accept children ages 6 weeks to 12 years old. Centerville Baptist Children's Program offers preschool, kindergarten, and childcare for these ages.
