To provide effective Career and Technical instruction in the assigned trade area; to assist assigned students to complete the required competencies for that trade area; demonstrate effective classroom or lab management; ensure that the lab is operated in compliance with all aspect of safety management; and to maintain accurate and current students records for the assigned student.
Minimum Qualifications- Ability to engage students in one‑on‑one teaching and work with students and inmate aides in a classroom/Lab environment.
- Ability to maintain accurate records; knowledge and experience of policy and procedure governing adult education.
- Must possess working knowledge of basic adult education field, adult literacy, and computer software appropriate for program needs.
- Experience in maintaining classroom, equipment, and inventories; demonstrate competency in related field of current trade licensure.
- Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent. - Experience:
Must have at least two years' full time or 2000 hours of verifiable experience in the last 5 years in the relevant field/trade area for a teaching certificate. - License:
Must be eligible for Technical Professional License issued by Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation (DPOR) and license/certification or a Technical Professional License in the related trade area/field issued by DPOR. Must be eligible for a teaching certificate by the Department of Education. - If you do not currently hold a teachers/trade license from the Department of Education (DOE):
- You must submit all documentation for your provisional license to the licensure designee for Virginia Department of Corrections (VADOC) during the first 90 days of employment.
- Obtaining a provisional license within the 1‑year probationary period is employee’s responsibility and is required to continuing employment at the Department of Corrections (DOC).
- Experience in correctional education classroom management.
- Five years experience in the related trade/field.
- License:
Must have Technical Professional License issued by Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation (DPOR) and license/certification or a Technical Professional License in the related trade area/field issued by DPOR. Must have a Teaching certificate by the Department of Education. - Knowledge of all phases of the trade area; ability to supervise adult in‑mates in a classroom/lab environment in a correctional facility.
- Knowledge and experience in correctional education classroom management.
- Ability to facilitate other instructors; knowledge of the Department of Corrections (DOC) institutional policies and procedures and policies governing correctional education.
