AEGIS SPY-1 Radar Transmitter Field Engineer
Raytheon Field Engineering team seeks highly skilled Field Engineers with hands-on AEGIS system experience to support the AEGIS Program. This position serves as a critical interface between Raytheon, the U.S. Navy, other defense contractors, and U.S. Government stakeholders. This role involves installation, integration, testing, operation, maintenance, repair, and modification of complex radar and fire control systems, specifically all variants of the AEGIS SPY-1 Radar Transmitter and the MK 99 Fire Control System (FCS).
Work is performed in support of U.S. Navy warships, the broader AEGIS Fleet, and Foreign Military Sales (FMS) customers around the world.
This position is primarily located in Norfolk, VA or San Diego, CA. Candidates must reside within a 50-mile radius of the Norfolk or San Diego shipyards. While remote in classification, it requires extensive travel to customer sites, including Navy installations and Raytheon facilities. A dedicated home office is not provided due to continuous travel and onsite support.
Responsibilities- Travel to various Naval shipyards, CONUS and OCONUS, as required to support ORDALT installations and technical assistance efforts.
- Accept temporary assignments involving at-sea support aboard U.S. Navy ships in support of AEGIS systems.
- Operate, maintain, align, troubleshoot, and repair all variants of the SPY-1 Radar Transmitter Equipment and MK99 FCS aboard U.S. Navy AEGIS ships, land-based sites, or other designated locations.
- Participate in planning and execution of shipboard equipment installations.
- Analyze equipment failures to determine root causes and implement corrective actions.
- Perform radar system modifications, including ORDALTs and CINs.
- Conduct backplane and chassis wiring modifications, and mechanical modifications to SPY radar and FCS hardware.
- Prepare and submit detailed reports outlining equipment discrepancies with recommended solutions.
- Provide guidance and hands-on training to Navy technicians across SPY radar and MK99 FCS.
- Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs; maintain accurate performance and maintenance records.
- Extensive travel, including CONUS, OCONUS, and at-sea assignments.
- Lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders, work in confined spaces, and perform physically demanding tasks onboard Navy vessels.
- Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience, or an Advanced Degree with at least 0 years of experience; experience may be considered in lieu of education.
- Active and transferable U.S. government-issued security clearance is required prior to start date. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
- Formal training in Basic Electronics & Electricity, including RF, digital, and analog principles.
- Minimum six years of experience with the AEGIS Weapon System.
- Completion of Aegis C School for AEGIS SPY-1 Transmitter and for AEGIS FCS Transmitters.
- Experience interpreting electrical and mechanical schematics.
- Experience with electronics, radar systems, tools, test equipment, and cooling systems; ability to diagnose and repair.
- Experience with ORTS and related test equipment is desirable.
- Strong technical writing skills to maintain AEGIS documentation, report issues to Program Management and QA, and develop solutions to complex problems.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work with peers, superiors, and military personnel.
- Direct experience with AEGIS systems, particularly SPY-1 transmitter or MK99 FCS.
- Knowledge of RF cable construction and repair; experience with electrical multi-pin connectors and their maintenance.
- Understanding of RF principles, analog/digital circuitry, and troubleshooting across domains.
- Wire wrap and soldering skills; familiarity with hand tools and specialized test equipment.
- Experience operating and troubleshooting with Operational Readiness Test Systems (ORTS).
- Familiarity with U.S. Navy shipboard safety standards and shipyard operations; experience in shipyard or dry-dock environments.
- Prior international or overseas assignment experience;
Electronics Technician Certification or equivalent military/technical credential. - Excellent communication skills for coordination across teams and with customers, peers, and leadership.

Salary range is 66,000 USD - 130,000 USD in good faith and may vary by experience, location, and qualifications.
