Position: Level III NDT/ Welding Engineer

Level III NDT/ Welding Engineer

As the Level III NDT/Welding Engineer, you will have the opportunity to tackle new projects and develop highly engineered solutions to meet our Navy customers’ needs and transform their businesses. In this role, you will be responsible for using required Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) methods and welding techniques and procedures for all NDT and welding applications and/or qualifications. Updating NDT and weld record preparation, NDT inspector and welder procedures and qualification records.

Interacts and participates in administrative and/or production meetings to support facility production and operations. Requires direct experience as a Level III NDT Examiner and weld inspector, working in a manufacturing environment where shielded metal arc (SMAW, stick), gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW, TIG or heliarc) and brazing is performed. Knowledge of critical welding joints and the Navy’s NDT and Welding programs is required.

Salary: $86,100 to $114,800

Your Challenge
  • Provides innovative, technically significant, and economically important material NDT (PT and VT) and welding solutions in support of repair and manufacturing operations.
  • Works with the technical requirements and NDT/welding activities to comply with NAVSEA Technical Publication 248, 278, and 271.
  • Manages the requirements of the Navy facility NDT program as the Level III examiner including oversight of our Level I/II NDT inspectors.
  • Manages the Navy program requirements of the facility welding program, including the administration of the Welder Workmanship Training Program (WWTP).
  • Proactively seeks and accepts responsibility for solving new materials joining and manufacturing engineering challenges, while appropriately assessing and managing risks.
  • Effectively communicate technical concepts across all levels internally and customer organizations.
  • Provide technical support, priorities and direction to welders, brazers, and NDT inspectors in support of materials, joining, testing, and evaluation in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Identify new and/or improved welding processes/techniques for improving applications and procedures.
  • Provide support for audits of suppliers and support to the facility for audits from our customers and 3rd party certifiers.
  • Interacts with customers to ensure compliance with customer specifications.
What You Bring
  • B.S. Degree in Welding Engineering, Metallurgical, or Materials Science from an accredited institution with a minimum of five years of related experience is preferred. Equivalent experience may be considered.
  • Qualification as a certified Level III Examiner by a third party examining body is necessary (e.g., ASNT) in at least visual and dye penetrant methods (VT and PT). Magnetic Particle (MT) certification, among others, are a plus. If recertified, must be recertified by examination (not points) per Navy qualification guidelines.
  • 3+ years supervisory experience. Years of supervisory experience can be waived if the candidate has requisite Level III certification and can parlay related experience.
  • Strong technical knowledge of USN welding and NDT programs, including technical publication and standards guidance.
  • Weld symbol and fabrication drawing reading skills.
  • Good command of MS Office suite of software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Strong technical writing capabilities, primarily for the development and updating of welding, brazing, and NDT procedures and program documentation.
  • Effective communication and presentation skills (written and verbal).
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System…
