Senior Coding Specialist

• Accurately assign and sequence ICD and CPT codes to inpatient and outpatient records
• Collaborate with medical staff to ensure quality coding and completion of medical records
• Select the appropriate DRG for inpatient discharges and APC for outpatient visits
• Abstract medical data from records to complete discharge abstracts for various visits
• Code Emergency Department records and meet productivity and quality standards

• Minimum of four years of recent experience coding in an acute hospital setting
• Required credentials: CCS, CPC, COC, RHIA, or RHIT
• Successful completion of an AHIMA-approved coding certificate program is preferred
• Proficient in operating Windows-based computer functions and relevant office equipment
• Must maintain a 96% or greater accuracy rate in coding

• Experience with coding in various health care settings
• Additional certifications or continuing education in coding practices
• Familiarity with emergency department coding standards
• Strong communication skills for educating staff and physicians
