Overview

The certified/registered medical assistant performs a wide range of clinical duties, assisting the physician in providing quality care in a medical office setting. The medical assistant must demonstrate the knowledge required to provide age‑appropriate care for the patients served, and the skills to interpret assessments in relation to principles of growth and development over the life span. In addition, the medical assistant must be knowledgeable of health insurance guidelines for pre‑authorizations and referral processes, and be attentive to scheduling testing and specialist visits within network guidelines.

What

You Will Do
  • Perform lab procedures, including compliant use of ABNs and phlebotomy skills (if applicable). Send specimens to the lab, obtain pre‑authorizations, and schedule tests and specialist visits within network limitations.
  • Maintain and utilize knowledge of ICD and CPT coding and follow insurance carrier guidelines and Medicare regulations.
  • Assist patients with questions regarding access to care, including appointments, referrals, and essential information. Provide excellent customer service and follow‑up. Manage patient expectations with clear explanations (e.g., informing patients about delays as appropriate) and effectively manage the providers' patient schedules. Provide patient education per protocol and provider instruction to include Electronic Health Record and exit interview communication tools.
  • Complete initial patient work‑up (including manual vitals), chaperone patients, assist providers with procedures, and ensure patient rooms are clean and compliant for the next visit. Ensure clinical equipment is maintained and supplies are ordered and stocked as necessary.
Qualifications Education
  • Program Graduate, Medical Assistant (Required)
Experience
  • Clinical experience (Preferred)
Licenses and Certifications
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) – American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) (Required)
  • CPR/BLS Certification – American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) (Required upon hire)
  • First Aid – American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) (Required)
