Overview

Opportunity of a lifetime, practicing within an oncology office. The pharmacist will provide oversight of dispensing oral oncology and supportive medications at the onsite pharmacy. This setting allows patient‑pharmacist relationships to be established and provider collaboration. The pharmacist will utilize counseling skills, patient assistance knowledge, and provide comprehensive care. Monday - Friday schedule – closed on major holidays. No drive‑thru, no storefront, no vaccines.

Responsibilities
  • Assess, implement, and evaluate pharmaceutical care that contributes to the physiological and psychosocial outcomes and stability of the patient. Monitor, screen, and verify all specialty medication and chemotherapy treatment plans for accurate dose, indication, route, treatment parameters, and administrative schedule. Complete critical patient monitoring and reviews of patient profile/chart to identify, prevent, or mitigate drug‑related problems, improper drug or dose selection, sub‑therapeutic dosage, overdose, adverse drug reactions, failure to receive drugs, untreated indications, treatment failures, and patient adherence issues.
  • Provide drug information for patients and team members. Participate in patient education related to pharmaceutical care and disease‑state management. Monitor patient progress, reconcile data discrepancies, handle specialty pharmacy inquiries, provide departmental updates, and promote services to RMG practices. Provide statistical data related to specialty pharmacy capture rate and leakage of prescriptions from the RMG practice sites.
  • Coordinate and process copay requests including, but not limited to, patient status requests, copay assistance, prior authorization and billing inquiries, resolve payment obstacles, submission of appeal letters, eligibility inquiries, and claims processing challenges. Document appropriately and timely within the electronic medical record or data analytics programs.
  • Assist with program development and implementation to support system‑wide initiatives. Responsible for data governance of quality measures. Verify data definitions, sources, and ensure integrity of data collection. Responsible for transmission within RHS, manufacturers, and other external databases. Accurately and timely submit data and information for required accreditation programs. Ensure accurate and timely submission of validation records, data, and information.
  • Handle all aspects of pharmaceutical care within the assigned location, including supervision of pharmacy technicians. Participate in the development and training of clinical staff.
  • Triage and/or approve referrals to specialty pharmacies through coordination of data/ prescription transfers with specialty pharmacies to ensure warm hand‑offs of patients.
  • Evaluate products and care plans to determine quality and cost‑effectiveness. Assist with ordering and inventory control. Ensure compliance with the 340B program. Proactively seek out pipeline medications, work with manufacturers and the wholesaler to gain drug access.
Qualifications
  • Education:

    Doctoral Degree, Doctorate of Pharmacy (Required) or Bachelors Degree, Pharmacy (Required). Program Graduate, PGY‑1 (Preferred).
  • Experience:

    1 year working with specialty pharmacy (Preferred).
  • Licenses and

    Certifications:
    • Licensed Pharmacist – Virginia Department of Health Professions (VDHP) – Licensed in the State of Virginia upon hire (Required).
    • Certified Specialty Pharmacist (CSP) – The Specialty Pharmacy Certification Board (SPCB) within 5 years (Required).
    • Valid Driver’s License – Required.
