Overview
The EMT is a highly motivated and dedicated Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) that will bring essential healthcare services directly to the community. It is a pivotal role in providing vital primary care services and fostering community health and wellness. The EMT is responsible for assisting in direct patient care under the guidance and direction of a Physician, Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant, or Registered Nurse.
Tasks are based on accepted standards of outpatient practice and are performed within the scope of education, training and experience of the EMT.
- Assist the provider team to deliver high-quality healthcare services directly to patients within the scope of practice, including handling urgent or emergent patient care needs.
- Contributes to the plan of care, implements, reports and documents patient care in accordance with department policies, standard of care and scope of practice.
- Demonstrates competence in handling the infant/pediatric age group, adolescent age group, and adult/geriatric age group.
- Interview and accurately collect patient information and demographics and review/verify patient insurance coverage and complete patient registration and updates to registration, as needed.
- Ensures the unit is adequately supplied at the start of each shift, including patient care supplies as well as adequate fresh water, fuel, and other vehicle supplies.
- Engages with community members to build trust, rapport, and awareness of available healthcare services.
- Considers the cultural, psychosocial, spiritual, age-specific and educational needs of the patient population served.
- Demonstrates commitment to health equity, social justice, and serving vulnerable populations.
- Demonstrates a commitment to flexible work scheduling to support participation in various community events as requested.
- Drives and maintains the vehicle to safely transport staff and equipment to and from designated community sites.
- Demonstrates excellent competence in operating emergency and/or large-sized vehicles.
- Maintains safety as a primary role throughout all aspects of care and transportation.
- Maintains schedule of required maintenance for vehicle and ensures maintenance is completed in coordination with leadership.
- May be temporarily assigned to duties or areas outside of the primary role, in accordance with organizational policies, which may include participation in on-call or backup rotations.
- Attends required hospital-wide orientations, meetings, and in-services.
- Demonstrates a commitment to flexible work scheduling when necessary to ensure patient care.

Education and Experience- Minimum Required
Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent with post-training as an Emergency Medical Technician. - Preferred Education:
N/A - Experience:
One (1) or more years recent patient care related experience is preferred.
- Maintain a valid Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification applicable to the state of practice.
- Must hold, or obtain within 30 days of hire, and maintain American Heart Association BLS Certification.
- Must hold and maintain a valid Driver’s License, automotive insurance, and acceptable Motor Vehicle Record in compliance with organizational policy and/or demonstrate a reliable method of transportation for work responsibilities.
