Overview
The Supervisor for the Behavioral Health Clinicians is responsible for partnering with leadership of Behavioral Health to support safe and efficient patient evaluation, treatment, and throughput. As a licensed behavioral health clinician, the Clinical Supervisor is expected to provide clinically competent direct patient-centered care as well as administrative functions such as supervising and supporting departmental staff.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesThese duties and responsibilities described below represent the general tasks performed on a daily basis; other tasks may be assigned.
Patient Care Support- Creates a culture of service and quality excellence that ensures patient and family satisfaction, optimal patient outcomes, and patient and staff safety.
- Demonstrate competence in direct patient care for the behavioral health patient population.
- Demonstrate ability to respond in a timely and effective manner to emergency situations.
- Organize and reprioritize work based on staff needs, patient needs, available resources, and unit requirements.
- Facilitate patient transfers, admissions, and discharges in a timely manner to ensure effective patient throughput.
- Utilizes patient rounding to ensure that care standards are being met and analyzes patient care needs to guide staffing decisions.
- Proactively pursue coverage for staffing needs in collaboration with Behavioral Health leadership.
- Establish and maintain interdepartmental, collaborative relationships with leaders and front line staff.
- Demonstrate a commitment to flexible work scheduling when necessary to ensure patient care.
- Collect and analyze departmental quality and performance improvement data to optimize departmental performance.
- Maintain and monitor patient care and environment of care in accordance with regulatory and accreditation standards.
- Ensure effective onboarding of new hires through scheduling, direct evaluation, and oversight of preceptors as needed.
- Evaluate departmental education needs and coordinate staff development and unit-based educational needs.
- Demonstrate effective problem-solving, and communication skills such as conflict resolution and negotiating skills; proactively deals with conflict in a timely manner.
- Participate in the unit level strategic plan development and implementation.
- Provide administrative support such as staff scheduling and time-keeper functions.
- Provide feedback regarding employee performance and clinical experience to Behavioral Health leadership.
- Support a unit structure and process that is conductive to teamwork, encourages communication, and supports participative management.
- Foster and model a spirit of teamwork in actions and words.
- Consult with and keep Behavioral Health leadership informed of unit activities, needs, and problems.

Education and Experience- Minimum Required
Education:
Master’s degree in psychology, social work, counseling, or a related field from an accredited college or university. - Minimum
Required Experience:
Minimum three years work experience in behavioral health assessment and treatment; must have a good working knowledge of mental health treatment, resources, assessment, referral, and civil mental health procedures in the Commonwealth of Virginia. - Preferred Experience:
Supervisory and/or leadership experience in behavioral health settings.
- Required License:
Current license to practice in Virginia as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). - Required certification:
American Heart Association BLS Certification required within 90 days of hire.
