Medical Assistant (2980) - Float Pool (Chesapeake, Virginia Beach, Suffolk)

Tidewater Physicians Multispecialty Group (TPMG) is actively seeking a F.L.O.A.T. Certified Medical Assistant to provide temporary support to providers across the group. TPMG comprises over 200 physicians and advanced practice clinicians and is the largest physician‑owned group in Tidewater.

The position is full‑time, Monday through Friday. Compensation includes mileage reimbursement, progressive career direction, and incentive pay for joining the F.L.O.A.T. Program.

Position Summary

The Medical Assistant exudes a strong dedication to offering exceptional patient care and facilitates the efficient flow of the patient office visit experience while maintaining high quality and compassionate care.

Major Duties And Responsibilities
  • Perform patient intake, including medical history with accurate documentation in the electronic health record.
  • Patient triage, including vital signs (blood pressure, pulse, respirations, temperature, height, and weight).
  • Perform phlebotomy and ancillary clinical kit testing and specimen collection.
  • Administer immunizations and a variety of injections.
  • Maintain temperature logs, QA processes, and OSHA policies.
  • Ensure accurate performance of EKGs.
  • Assist physician with gynecologic, surgical, and wound procedures/exams.
  • Complete pharmaceutical prior authorizations.
  • Phone triage, including communication with pharmacies for patient medication refills.
  • Perform Medicare Annual Wellness visits.
  • Exam room setup, cleaning, and stocking.
  • Electronic input of patient lab and radiology orders.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of laboratory techniques for routine laboratory tests.
  • Knowledge of laboratory equipment and testing to operate, clean, and sterilize.
  • Knowledge of appropriate medical terminology for communication with medical and laboratory staff.
  • Skill in operating a variety of laboratory instrumentation and equipment.
  • Skill in proper reporting of laboratory tests.
  • Skill in communicating clearly with diverse publics.
  • Skill in appropriately billing orders collected.
  • Ability to work scheduled hours as defined in the job offer.
  • Ability to work in multiple computer systems effectively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public.
  • Ability to read and understand oral and written instructions and follow written protocols.
  • Ability to work independently.
Education/Training/Requirements
  • COVID‑19 vaccination required.
  • Medical Assistant certification (CMA, CCMA, NRCMA, NCMA, or RMA).
  • Current CPR or BLS certificate.
Physical Demands
  • Ability to stand and walk for limited periods of time.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to climb or balance for limited periods of time.
  • Ability to occasionally reach, bend, stoop, and lift up to 30 lbs.
  • Ability to grasp and hold up to 25 lbs.
  • Ability to hear normal voice level communications in person or through the telephone.
  • Ability to speak clearly and understandably.
