Advanced Medical Support Assistant (Specialty and Primary Care - PACT) Outpatient Clinic
Base pay range: $54,357.00 per year - $70,662.00 per year.
SummaryThis vacancy is for an Advanced Medical Support Assistant (AMSA) (Specialty and Primary Care - PACT) in the Hampton VA Healthcare System located at the North Battlefield CBOC Clinic.
Qualifications- United States Citizenship (non‑citizens may only be appointed under VA policy).
- Experience and
Education:
Minimum six months of clerical, office, customer service, or other administrative work that demonstrates ability to acquire the knowledge and skills for this position. - OR one year above high school OR equivalent education/experience combination eligible for entry level.
- Certification:
None required. - Medical Support Assistant (Advanced) – GS-6
Experience:
One year of experience equivalent to the GS‑5 grade level. - Assignment:
Provide specialized and expert administrative patient support within an interdisciplinary coordinated care delivery model. - Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities: collaboration with medical clinicians, effective communication, advanced knowledge of health‑care processes, policies, and terminology, and ability to use electronic patient systems.
- Physical requirements:
ability to lift up to 30 lbs., stand, twist, bend, sit, and carry supplies for short distances.
- Serve as AMSA in the Hampton VA Healthcare System at the North Battlefield CBOC Clinic.
- Perform receipt, intake, and indexing of health and administrative information.
- Schedule, cancel, and reschedule patient appointments and consults using PC applications and VISTA/VSE/CPRS/VSSC systems.
- Enter no‑show information daily and prepare daily appointment lists.
- Monitor inpatient & outpatient appointments, verify demographics, insurance and eligibility, and print required reports.
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary care team to review clinic utilization, provide reminders, and adjust scheduling flow.
- Enter data into the electronic health record and handle secure messages, consults, and patient follow‑up care.
- Participate in team huddles, meetings, and operational issue problem‑solving.
- Provide telephone support to internal and external customers for scheduling and general questions.
- Maintain effective communication with non‑VA medical facilities and with VA care teams.
- Apply operational knowledge to manage pre‑appointment requirements and coordination across clinics.
- Adjust priorities and deadlines to meet team and patient needs, and document outcomes in relevant systems.
Monday – Friday: 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM; or 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM. Telework :
