Supply Planner

A great job-and a great future-awaits you at Smithfield Foods. We are an American food company with a leading position in packaged meats and fresh pork products. We're looking for motivated people who want to join our team and grow lasting and meaningful careers with us.

Our Supply Chain team is looking for driven professionals to ensure our high-quality products reach customers and consumers seamlessly.

As a Supply Planner, you will play a key role in master production scheduling, overseeing finished goods, work-in-process inventory, excess stock, and obsolete inventory to ensure supply aligns with customer demand. You will drive strategic decisions that minimize distressed product risks while maintaining seamless inventory flow.

Your expertise will be critical in maintaining strong partnerships with manufacturing operations and plant schedulers to optimize stock levels. Using data-driven insights, you will establish critical system parameters for Target & Safety Stock settings, ensuring the right inventory is in the right place at the right time.

You will manage long-term capacity planning, overseeing data horizons of 2652 weeks for production and labor resources. Additionally, you will balance available stock across the distribution network, driving operational efficiency while managing base and pre-build business situations.

What You’ll Do:
  • Demand and Inventory Planning: You will create finished goods based on the Consensus Demand Plan, ensuring alignment with customer orders, forecasted demand, and inventory stocking requirements. You will establish critical inventory parameters for Target & Safety Stock settings, factoring in supply lead time, warehouse capacities, and transportation constraints to maintain efficiency. Additionally, you will proactively identify potential material shortages against inventory plans and develop action items to mitigate risks, ensuring seamless supply chain operations.

  • Collaboration and Process Optimization: You will collaborate with cross‑functional partners to ensure inventory management aligns with operational constraints and overall business strategy. You will actively engage with demand management, manufacturing, quality, warehousing, and transportation teams to resolve finished goods issues and analyze consumption patterns. Additionally, you will marshal resources to address supply challenges, proactively following up on material shortage‑related concerns to maintain smooth and efficient operations.

  • Performance Measurement and Reporting: You will measure, analyze, and report key process metrics, ensuring adherence to assigned key performance indicators (KPI) to drive operational efficiency. You will also oversee long‑term capacity status, manage weekly category KPI updates, track product shortages, and facilitate daily information flow among supply planning partners, maintaining seamless communication and strategic execution.

  • Key Metrics Accountability: You will monitor and optimize Case Fill Rate %, ensuring high product availability and customer satisfaction. You will track and reduce the Distress to Sales Ratio, minimizing excess inventory and waste. You will manage Working Capital/Days on Hand Inventory (DOH) to maintain efficient stock levels and cash flow. You will oversee Stock Transfer Order Utilization, optimizing weights and cube efficiency across the distribution network.

Additionally, you will conduct Pre‑build Monitoring for production and storage, ensuring strategic inventory positioning to meet seasonal and fluctuating demand.

What We’re Seeking:
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four‑year college or university and 2+ years of relevant experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience, required.

  • Work experience in a team‑based environment within manufacturing or supply chain.

  • Experience with SAP and its related supply chain applications.

  • Proficiency using PC‑based Technology (Microsoft Excel, Power Point, Word and Access).

  • Strong technical skills around data management, analytics, data processing and problem solving.

  • Well organized, with strong attention to details.

  • Strong mathematical/statistical abilities.

  • Hands on…
