Toll Collector​/Part-Time

Chesapeake Expressway toll collectors work as essential (alpha) personnel in support of a 24 hour/day, 365-day/year operation, including holidays, weekends and during inclement weather events. Schedules are subject to change to meet the operational needs of the Chesapeake Expressway.

Medical Marijuana:

In accordance with City policy, this position is deemed safety-sensitive. As such, applicants for this position are subject to pre-employment drug/alcohol testing after receiving a conditional offer of employment and may also be subject to random testing. This drug test includes testing for marijuana. Possession of a medical marijuana card will not excuse an applicant from the testing process; however, a test will not be considered positive for marijuana if a valid medical marijuana certification is presented unless the position requires a commercial driver’s license (CDL) or is a sworn law-enforcement officer/deputy.

The Chesapeake Expressway Division of Public Works is seeking dependable, customer focused individuals to join our team as Part-Time Toll Collectors
. This position plays an important role in providing excellent customer service while ensuring the safe, efficient movement of traffic along the Chesapeake Expressway.

As a Part-Time Toll Collector
, you will accurately collect tolls, assist motorists, maintain accurate cash records, and help create a safe and welcoming experience for thousands of drivers each day. Ideal candidates are reliable, detail oriented, comfortable working independently, and committed to delivering courteous service in a fast paced environment.

• Collect toll payments from motorists and accurately process cash transactions.
• Receive, count, and account for toll revenue and change.
• Assess and record the appropriate toll based on vehicle classification.
• Maintain accurate records and balance cash collections in accordance with established procedures.
• Provide courteous, professional customer service while responding to questions from the traveling public.
• Monitor traffic flow and help promote the safe and efficient movement of vehicles through the toll plaza.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe tollbooth work area.
• Follow established safety, cash handling, and operational procedures.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Vocational/Educational Requirement: Requires high school diploma or GED / HSE .

Experience: In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standards, this class requires a minimum of one month of related, full-time equivalent experience.
