About the Role
Complete Logistical Services is seeking a highly skilled Inside Machinist III to support the manufacturing of complex, critical submarine components in a low-volume, build-to-print environment. This role focuses on CNC programming, setup, precision machining, and first-article validation to ensure components meet tight tolerances and high-quality standards.
Success in this position means independently producing accurate parts by interpreting blueprints and GD&T, executing advanced CNC and manual machining operations, and documenting measurements to consistently achieve first-time quality. The work does not require travel, and overtime may be needed.
Duties & Responsibilities- Review, edit, and optimize CNC programs for both lathe and mill operations using G-code and applicable CAM platforms.
- Set up, align, and secure work pieces, fixtures, and tooling on CNC and manual machines to meet print requirements.
- Perform first-article runs and validate programs to confirm dimensional accuracy and repeatability.
- Operate and support machining equipment including lathes, mills, grinders, saws, and related shop machinery.
- Machine complex components using submarine-grade and advanced materials such as HY-80, HY-100, stainless steel, Inconel, and similar alloys.
- Select appropriate speeds, feeds, tooling, accessories, and cutting methods to achieve required tolerances and surface finishes.
- Execute complex machining operations with minimal supervision using CNC and manual equipment as needed.
- Read and interpret advanced blueprints, drawings, manuals, and GD&T to plan and execute machining work.
- Lay out one-off work pieces, establish reference points, and plan machining processes when procedures or examples are not available.
- Inspect, measure, and verify machined features using precision metrology tools such as micrometers, height gauges, depth gauges, calipers, vernier instruments, dial indicators, and layout tools.
- Accurately record inspection data and measurements to support compliance with critical tolerances and quality expectations.
- Follow OSHA and NAVSEA safety and cleanliness requirements while maintaining stringent workmanship standards.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Minimum five (5) years of experience machining complex submarine, aerospace, defense, nuclear, or similarly critical components in a precision or defense manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated proficiency in programming, reviewing, or editing CNC programs for both lathe and mill operations.
- Ability to perform advanced setups, optimize tool paths, and improve setup instruction sheets.
- Ability to operate both CNC and manual machine tools without supervision or guidance.
- Ability to perform multi-axis machining operations (e.g., 4-axis or 5-axis mills) as applicable.
- Ability to read and interpret advanced blueprints, drawings, GD&T, and technical specifications without supervision or guidance.
- Working knowledge of shop math, including converting between decimals and fractions, adding/subtracting decimals and fractions, and basic trigonometry used for layout and measurements.
- Ability to perform First Article Inspections and resolve dimensional issues to meet or exceed quality standards.
- Demonstrated knowledge of machining practices for tight-tolerance, critical components.
- Demonstrated proficiency using precision measuring instruments and accurately documenting measurements.
- Ability to work independently with minimal instructions and drive work through completion.
- Must be a U.S. citizen who is not a dual citizen of any other country.
