Summary
The midwife is responsible for providing quality care to patients while under the supervision of a licensed physician.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe duties and responsibilities described below represent the general tasks performed on a daily basis. Other duties may be assigned as needed to support the organization’s mission, vision, and values.
- Practice medicine within the scope of license, training, and credentialing
- Practice medicine in accordance with current standards of care
- Practice medicine in accordance with the quality criteria adopted by the Medical Staff Bylaws
- Promote a safety-conscious workplace
- Evaluate and follow up with patients
- Complete patient charting and required paperwork in a timely manner
- Educate patients on reproductive health, preparation for parenthood, and antenatal care
- Perform patient vital signs and order diagnostic tests as needed
- Counsel expectant mothers on birthing plans, including hospital care, birthing centers, and other options
- Promote emotional care of mothers during birth
- Arrange prenatal planning and care for mothers
- Coach mothers through the birting process
- Perform vaginal deliveries
- Tend to the health and well-being of both baby and mother
- Participate in the development and/or review of office policies and support the Practice Manager as needed
- Demonstrate the ability to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individual patient care appropriate to the age of patients served, with a strong working knowledge of growth and development principles across the life span
- Attend required hospital-wide orientations, meetings, and in-services
- Demonstrate a commitment to flexible work scheduling when necessary to ensure patient care
- Minimum Required
Education:
Master’s degree from an accredited School of Nursing; graduate of a certified nurse midwife education program accredited by the American College of Nurse Midwives - Experience: 2+ years as a Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) preferred
Applicant must possess a current, unrestricted license to work as a nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia, AMCB certification, current DEA certification without restrictions, and BLS certification.
