The Sherwin-Williams Assistant Manager Trainee Program is an accelerated, entry-level position designed to prepare current employees for a Store Management role in 18-24 months. With Sherwin-Williams’ promote-from-within philosophy, you will have the opportunity to progress into an Assistant Store Manager position upon successful completion of the initial 6-8-week training. This position’s typical schedule is 44 hours per week, which may include evenings and/or weekends.

During the program, you will collaborate with store management to oversee a million-dollar business, providing leadership and insight into the development and strategy of that store. You will learn all operations, clients, and internal strategy, understanding your significant role in the team’s success. You will grow the company’s market share by selling to large, commercial users such as painting contractors, purchasing agents, manufacturers, and other large-volume clients of our high-quality products.

Job duties involve contact with customers, access to cash and payment methods, electronic equipment, personal information, store merchandise, and other valuables. To protect our business, a criminal history review is necessary.

Responsibilities include:
  • Complete training consistent with the program
  • Support strategies to increase sales and profitability
  • Ensure high customer satisfaction through excellent service
  • Maintain product knowledge for effective recommendations
  • Build positive relationships with customers
  • Complete store administration
  • Ensure compliance with policies including safety and security
  • Maintain store condition and visual standards
  • Support employee training and performance management
  • Resolve customer and employee complaints
  • Partner with Store Manager on outside sales calls
  • Minimum Requirements:
    • Must be at least 18 years old
    • Legally authorized to work without sponsorship
    • Valid, unrestricted Driver’s License
    • High School diploma or GED
    • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. frequently and 70 lbs. occasionally, with or without reasonable accommodation
    • If internal, received at least a “meets expectations” rating on recent performance appraisal
    • Completed all required HR Cloud eLearning courses if internal
    Preferred Qualifications:
    • At least one year in retail, sales, or customer service
    • Leadership experience supervising others or leading teams
    • Experience selling paint and related products
    • Experience with CRM systems or timekeeping
    • Associate degree or higher in business, sales, or marketing
    • Experience working in team settings, including extracurriculars or military service
    • Willingness to relocate for future opportunities
    • Multilingual abilities, especially in Spanish
