Summary
As a Marine Electrician with the Elevator Support Unit (ESU), you will install, operate, maintain, repair, and provide technical support for marine shipboard electrical equipment. This full‑time position is located in Chesapeake, VA and requires travel to shipyards and military bases nationwide and internationally when not assigned to a local task.
What You Will Do
- Support the trades team by performing alterations and installations on active class surface ships for fleet modernization, including installing, operating, maintaining, repairing, and modifying equipment.
- Conduct maintenance and technical support on shipboard systems, integrated systems, and related equipment/software at company, customer, and field locations; provide onsite training to customer support personnel.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose malfunctions to eliminate problems in minimum time, applying comprehensive understanding of production and processes to complete assignments.
- Interface with customers, manage subcontractors, provide work direction, and lead others; may manage one or more jobs concurrently.
- Develop and use technical documents, including controlled work packages, formal work processes, procedures, test documents, reports, and trip reports; schedule, report, and brief customers and senior management.
What You Must Have
- High‑school diploma, Trade School, or equivalent, and 4 years of related experience.
- U.S. citizen.
- Own hand tools as designated per trade specialty.
- Complete comprehension of marine electrical systems, equipment, functions, and tools.
- Experience installing, troubleshooting, testing, maintaining, and repairing electrical systems and associated equipment on marine vessels.
- Proficient in reading electrical drawings and schematics.
- Ability to follow and enforce safety procedures.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance throughout employment.
- Ability to obtain base‑access credentials within 60 days of start date and maintain them throughout employment.
- Travel availability of 11% – 25% when not assigned to local tasks.
Preferred:
Bonus Points For
- Graduation from or completion of a vocational school, apprenticeship program, or skilled trades certificate program.
- Experience with maintenance and repair of shipboard aircraft elevaters, advanced weapons elevators, ordnance handling equipment, and vertical package conveyors.
- Current or active DoD clearance.
- OSHA 10 Maritime certification.
- Basic computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to lift, carry, and transport heavy equipment and boxes of no less than 30 lb. Able to work on and climb ladders, in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions, and in confined spaces. May ride ships at sea for extended periods; may require wearing a respirator. Travel may be required within and outside the continental United States.
