Job Responsibilities
  • Display levels of quality, integrity, safety, respect, engagement, and performance consistent with company values.
  • Support trades team by working on active class surface ships to assist with alterations and installations for fleet modernization.
  • Perform all work in accordance with established quality and safety procedures.
  • Perform a variety of simple and complicated tasks, both routine and non‑routine, including those outside of specialty, related to shipboard maintenance to meet standards on various contracts at company, customer and/or field locations.
  • Work from blueprints, engineering sketches, charts, or work orders.
  • Install, operate, maintain, repair, and modify structural and piping elements and equipment.
  • Lay out and mark points and lines on parts or subassemblies using rule, square, scribe or templates.
  • Cut, fit, assemble, and position pieces to be welded into jigs, holding fixtures, and existing structure using hand and powered tools.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose malfunctions to eliminate problems in minimum time.
  • Participate in special projects as required.
  • Apply comprehensive understanding of appropriate welding processes and production to join, surface, fabricate, or repair parts of metal or other weld‑able materials toward completion of assignments.
  • Develop and use technical documents including controlled work packages, formal work processes and procedures, test documents, reports and task or trip reports.
  • Inspect completed work for conformance to specifications.
  • Maintain effective customer communications and relations. May provide onsite training of customer support personnel.
  • Provide guidance and work leadership to less‑experienced welders. May serve as a group leader.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Demonstrate welding ability on needed processes through qualification testing and pass with a satisfactory grade from our Quality Assurance Team within the first three weeks from start date for continued employment.
  • High School education or Trade School or equivalent, and 4 years of related experience. Prefer technical/professional certifications.
  • Obtain medical clearance to wear a half‑face respirator.
  • Experience with stick welding (SMAW) process in all positions from 2G to 6G for Carbon and Stainless Steel.
  • Experience with gas metal arc welding (GMAW) process in all positions from 2G to 6G for Aluminum.
  • Strong knowledge of reading and interpreting drawings, blueprints, weldments, technical manuals, engineering sketches, charts and/or work orders as well as written and verbal instruction for products to be fabricated and/or installed.
  • Capable of using various measuring instruments.
  • Knowledge of quality control steps and procedures.
  • Adhere to safety and quality procedures set forth by HII and host facilities.
  • Experience working in a team environment.
  • Obtain and maintain a DoD secret security clearance and maintain clearance level throughout employment.
  • Obtain base access credentials within 60 days of start date and maintain credentials throughout employment.
  • Travel between 50% – 75% when not assigned to local tasking.
  • Provide hand tools per trades designation.
Preferred Requirements
  • Experience/knowledge in gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW) and/or flux cored arc welding (FCAW) processes/positions preferred.
  • Current or prior welding certificates applicable with MIL‑STD‑248 preferred.
  • Combination pipe and structural welders with experience on marine vessels and associated systems preferred.
