Marine Field Technician

We are currently offering a $5,000 sign-on bonus for Marine Field Technician new hires.

Carter Machinery Company, the authorized Caterpillar dealer serving Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, and Washington D.C., is hiring a Marine Field Technician in Chesapeake, Virginia. The Marine Field Technician is responsible for diagnosing, troubleshooting, and performing intermediate mechanical and electrical repairs and overhauls on marine engines and propulsion systems. Candidates should have at least two years of experience diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing DOC/DPF/SCR systems with marine engines and equipment control systems.

Ability to perform sea trials and use data loggers and engine vision is required. Military equipment experience is a plus. A high school diploma or GED is required.

Minimum of three years of relevant heavy equipment field experience is required to be eligible for the $5,000 sign-on bonus. Candidates with less than three years of experience are eligible for a $2,000 sign-on bonus. Bonuses are paid in two installments at 90 and 180 days of employment.

Requirements for the Marine Field Technician position include:

• Strong mechanical background and troubleshooting skills; able to diagnose, adjust, and repair malfunctions.
• Self-starter able to work with limited supervision.
• Excellent customer service skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficiency with computers, Microsoft Office, and service software; able to complete service reports and work orders.
• Willingness to work additional hours and travel as needed.
• Well organized with the ability to prioritize workload while maintaining excellent customer service.

• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

Physical requirements include the ability to lift, carry, and maneuver items up to 70 pounds, and to work outside in various weather conditions. Specific vision abilities required include close, distance, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment. Additional duties may be assigned.
