A two-form entry primary school in Chesham is seeking a highly motivated and reflective Year 1 Class Teacher to join its dedicated team on a permanent basis from September 2026. The inclusive and well-regarded school sits at the heart of its local community and is committed to providing a broad, balanced, and engaging curriculum. Staff work collaboratively across year groups, sharing planning and best practice to ensure consistency and high-quality teaching.
The leadership team is supportive and approachable, with a strong emphasis on staff wellbeing and professional development.
- Have a secure understanding of the Key Stage 1 curriculum, particularly in Year 1, including the Phonics Screening Check
- Plan and deliver engaging, well‑structured lessons that meet the needs of all learners, including SEND and disadvantaged pupils
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to early reading, phonics, and language development
- Use assessment effectively to inform teaching and support pupil progress
- Set high expectations for behaviour, attainment, and presentation
- Build positive relationships with pupils, parents, and colleagues
- Show a commitment to continuous professional development and reflective practice
- Contribute to the wider life of the school, including enrichment activities and events
- Have experience teaching in Year 1 or across Key Stage 1
- Are confident delivering phonics (e.g. Little Wandle or similar schemes)
- Have a strong understanding of early reading and writing development
- Bring energy, creativity, and a passion for primary education
- A permanent, full‑time teaching position on the Main Pay Scale (MPS) or Upper Pay Scale (UPS), depending on experience
- A supportive and collaborative working environment within a two-form entry structure
- High-quality CPD opportunities, including support for ECTs and leadership pathways
- Dedicated PPA time with year group colleagues
- Well-resourced classrooms and access to a wide range of teaching materials
- A strong focus on staff wellbeing, including manageable workload expectations and supportive leadership
