Roxbury Academic Support Instructor / Part-time

Cheshire Academy seeks a part-time learning specialist or teacher to serve primarily as a Roxbury Academic Support Program Instructor for the 2025-26 academic year.

The Roxbury Academic Support Program, founded over 25 years ago at Cheshire Academy, offers a unique, effective, and individualized approach to supporting students. The goal is to develop proactive, knowledgeable, and independent learners who take responsibility for their education and success as they transition to college.

Roxbury Instructors are trained in our signature academic coaching model and work one-on-one with students on executive functioning skills, learning strategies, and ongoing goal setting and progress monitoring. Collaboration with classroom teachers, parents, dorm parents, and the health center is essential.

Specific Duties Include
  • Work independently with each student at the assigned level;
  • Implement all components of the Roxbury Academic Coaching Model accurately;
  • Help students understand themselves as learners, teaching strategies to leverage strengths and overcome challenges;
  • Support students in meeting academic demands and advocate for them when needed;
  • Document daily progress and communicate with teachers, the Roxbury director, and the Health Center;
  • Communicate with parents weekly and more frequently if needed;
  • Plan sessions tailored to each student's needs.

This position is not eligible for school-provided housing.

Requirements

Candidates with an advanced degree, experience with diverse learning needs at secondary or post-secondary levels, and a commitment to antiracism are encouraged to apply. Classroom teaching experience and the ability to teach subjects of expertise are a plus. A Bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in special or general education; a Master’s degree is preferred.
