Job DescriptionPosition Overview:
As the Grocery Sales Counselor, you will be responsible for building and maintaining strong relationships with grocery retailers, increasing product sales, and providing customer support within the grocery retail distribution industry. This role involves consulting with retailers on product selections, promotions, and merchandising strategies to drive sales and maximize revenue. The Sales Counselor collaborates with sales teams, merchandising teams, and distribution partners to ensure grocery clients receive the best possible service and product recommendations.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain relationships with grocery retailers, store managers, and key decision-makers.
- Understand customer needs and recommend product solutions, promotions, and merchandising strategies.
- Conduct sales presentations, category reviews, and business consultations to drive product adoption.
- Monitor and analyze customer purchasing trends and inventory needs to suggest replenishment strategies.
- Achieve and exceed sales targets, revenue goals, and distribution benchmarks.
- Identify new sales opportunities and expand market presence within assigned territories.
- Collaborate with internal teams to execute pricing strategies, product launches, and seasonal promotions.
- Provide retailers with insights on consumer trends, competitive analysis, and category performance.
- Work closely with merchandising teams to ensure proper product placement, in-store promotions, and inventory levels.
- Train grocery retail staff on product knowledge, promotional campaigns, and selling techniques.
- Ensure compliance with planograms, brand guidelines, and retailer agreements.
- Support store resets, display setups, and special marketing initiatives.
- Act as the primary point of contact for client inquiries, product issues, and order fulfillment concerns.
- Resolve customer complaints and service issues in a timely and professional manner.
- Provide post-sale support and follow-up to ensure customer satisfaction and repeat business.
- Maintain detailed customer records, call reports, and sales activity logs.
- Track sales performance, order history, and market trends to provide actionable insights.
- Prepare reports on territory performance, customer feedback, and competitor activity.
- Use CRM tools and sales tracking software to document interactions and manage accounts effectively.
- Performing other duties as assigned by leadership
Schedule:
- Monday - Friday
- 8:00am - 5:00pm
- Overnights required
- Travel required up to 90% of the time
- Warehouse Office – approx. 65F – 75F
Preferred Experience:
- Three (3) years of experience grocery retail sales, wholesale distribution, or food service account management.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Sales, Marketing, or a related field
- Proven success in sales growth, customer relationship management, and revenue generation.
- Experience with category management, merchandising strategies, and trade promotions
- Familiarity with grocery retail operations, supply chain logistics, and consumer behavior.
- Proficiency in English (written and verbal) to effectively communicate with associates and leadership
Skills:
- Physical abilities :
Ability to stand, walk and sit throughout your day;
Walking on a variety of flooring such as carpet, concrete, tile etc; - Strong communication Skills: Ability to provide & receive constructive feedback; communication of expectations and directions clearly
