New Store - Cashier Team Member (Front End Service) - Full Time - Cheshire, CT - Early 2026

Provides support as a member of the Customer Service & E-Commerce team, assisting customers during the check‑out process, performing all cash register functions, bagging groceries, and working at the customer service desk. Supports the Whole Foods Market Customer Service vision, maintains attractive customer service displays, and ensures a positive company image by providing courteous, friendly, and efficient service to customers and team members at all times.

All positions must be performed in accordance with team and store Standard Operating Procedures and support WFM core values and goals.

Base pay range

$17.50/hr – $25.40/hr

Job Responsibilities
  • Check out customer groceries efficiently and accurately.
  • Uphold government regulations concerning the sale of alcoholic beverages and taxation.
  • Follow proper check, ATM, and credit procedures.
  • Use proper tare procedures when ringing up scalable items.
  • Clean and stock front‑end areas, including own register – changing tapes and ribbon as necessary.
  • Follow all cash handling procedures – meeting and exceeding regional cashier variance policy.
  • May assist with training of new cashier and cashier assistant team members.
  • Assist supervisor in controlling customer flow and backed‑up lines – helping reduce customer waiting time.
  • Proactively participate in company programs as directed by leadership.
  • Arrive to workstation on time, appropriately groomed, dressed and ready to work; work all scheduled shifts and attend required trainings and meetings.
  • Provide excellent customer service, address needs of customers in a timely and effective manner and model suggestive selling techniques; answer phones and pages promptly and courteously.
  • Maximize sales potential through effective and proper procedures for prepping, storing, rotating, stocking, and merchandising product.
  • Follow and comply, or ensure compliance, with established procedures, including Weights and Measures, health and sanitation, and safe work practices.
  • Maintain, or ensure maintenance of, a clean and sanitary working and shopping environment; maintain equipment in accordance with WFM cleanliness and safety standards.
  • Perform opening, mid, and closing duties as assigned; ensure accuracy of signs and pricing.
  • Immediately report safety hazards and violations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by store or company leadership.
  • US only – For those hired November 2024 and beyond, cashiers will be assigned shopper training to complete and as needed may be assigned shopper tasks within the Customer Service Team.
Job Skills
  • Demonstrate patience in dealing with customers and team members.
  • Maintain proficiency with the cashier code book and PLUs.
  • Strong basic math skills.
  • Strong to excellent communication skills and willingness to work as part of a team.
  • Ability to deliver information in a clear and respectable manner to fellow team members, customers, and vendors.
  • Ability to meet customer service expectations and standards in all interactions with customers, vendors, and team members.

Experience
  • No prior retail experience required.
Physical Requirements / Working Conditions
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
  • In an 8‑hour work day: standing/walking 6‑8 hours.
  • Hand use: single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling.
  • Work requires bending, twisting, squatting, and reaching.
  • Exposure to FDA approved cleaning chemicals.
  • Exposure to temperatures: 90°F.
  • Ability to work in a wet and cold environment.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Ability to use tools and equipment, including box cutters, electric pallet jacks, and other heavy machinery.
  • May require use of ladders.

The wage range for this position is $17.50‑$25.40 hourly, commensurate with experience. Whole Foods Market offers
