Position Overview
The Division of Behavioral Health and Recovery is seeking to hire a Plumber for the Chester Mental Health Center located in Chester, Illinois. The role reports to the Chief Stationary Engineer and performs journey level work in the installation, maintenance and repair of sanitary fixtures and sewage systems. Responsibilities include making regular inspections, reading blueprints, maintaining records, instructing semi‑skilled workers and traveling to other facilities for general plumbing work.
EssentialFunctions
- Receives day‑to‑day guidance from the Chief Stationary Engineer.
- Makes regular inspections of structural facilities, reads blueprints and estimates tolls, materials and supplies needed for each project.
- Performs or directs trenching, excavating and back‑filling operations necessary to begin or continue work on underground installations.
- Maintains a supply of tools, materials and equipment and reports repairs and replaces equipment as necessary.
- Travels to other facilities to perform general plumbing work.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
- Completion of four (4) years of high school or equivalent.
- Current valid plumber’s license issued by the Illinois Department of Public Health.
- Possession or acquisition of a Universal Technician certificate under EPA Section 608 within 6 months of employment.
- Possession or acquisition of a Cross‑Connection Control Device Inspector (CCCDI) certificate within the probationary period.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel.
- Ability to access all locations of the facility including basements, crawl spaces, tunnels, attics and roofs.
- Physical ability to lift and carry heavy items up to 50 pounds independently (up to 100 pounds with assistance).
- Ability to utilize office equipment and personal computers.
- Read and understand laws relating to sanitation and public health.
- Pass IDHS background check and drug screen for prohibited substances.

Monday – Friday; 30‑minute paid lunch
