Assistant Accountant Barnsley, South Yorkshire An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Accountant to join a growing business based in Barnsley. This is a varied role offering exposure across transactional finance, reconciliations, reporting, and month-end accounting, making it an excellent opportunity for someone looking to take the next step in their finance career. Key Responsibilities Process purchase and sales invoices Complete daily bank postings and reconciliations Assist with supplier payment runs Reconcile supplier accounts and resolve queries Support credit control and monitor outstanding balances Maintain accurate balance sheet reconciliations Prepare and post month-end journals Assist with month-end and year-end close Support the production of weekly and monthly financial reports Provide accurate financial information to the wider business Assist with payroll processes and administration Manage finance queries through shared inboxes and telephone lines Provide documentation and information for internal and external audits Ensure financial records are accurate and kept up to date Support the wider finance team with ad hoc projects and requests About You A good understanding of core accounting principles Finance/Accounting graduate or be currently studying towards a recognised finance or accounting qualification, such as AAT, ACCA or CIMA Good Excel skills and confidence using accounting systems Strong attention to detail and accuracy Excellent organisation and time-management skills A proactive approach and willingness to take ownership Strong communication skills A genuine desire to learn, develop and progress within finance A professional and trustworthy approach Benefits Study support Enhanced holiday allowance Life Assurance Employee Assistance Programme Health & wellness support Progression opportunities
