LIS Customer Services Assistant
Are you passionate about books, helping people, and creating calm, welcoming spaces? We’re looking for a full‑time (36.5 hours per week)
Customer Services Assistant to join our Learning and Information Services (LIS) team at the University of Chester, based at our Chester sites, with a strong focus on library services.

Job Overview

In this role, you’ll support the day‑to‑day running of our library, helping students and staff, learning resources and study spaces. You’ll provide friendly, approachable assistance at service points, help with borrowing and returning items, shelving and maintaining book stock, and ensuring the library remains an organised, inviting environment where everyone feels comfortable and supported.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work closely with the Customer Services Team Leader and deliver a positive library experience.
  • Answer enquiries and assist users with finding books and resources.
  • Guide students (new or regular users) in using the library and its resources.
  • Maintain clarity and safety of learning spaces, keeping them tidy and ready for use.
  • Support day‑to‑day library operations, including borrowing, returning, shelving and stock maintenance.
  • Participate in a rota that includes regular evenings and weekend days; use time off in lieu during the week.
  • Occasionally travel to other University sites as required.
Role Details

This is a full‑time, permanent role working 36.5 hours per week. The role requires working a regular evening and weekend day on a rota basis, with time off in lieu during the week. Occasional travel to other University sites may be required.
