Electrical Estimator

Salary: Competitive, depending on experience
Working hours: Full-time, office-based
We’re working with an established, family-run business in York that is looking for an experienced Electrical Estimator to join the team.
The business works across a broad range of projects, with a strong electrical focus but also covering a variety of other works. They have a real “if we can do it, we’ll have a go” approach, so they’re looking for someone who is technically capable, commercially aware and happy to get involved across the business.
The RoleThe successful candidate will take ownership of estimating and tendering activity, ensuring each opportunity receives the time, detail and attention it deserves.
You’ll be responsible for reviewing tenders and drawings, carrying out take-offs, pricing works and preparing quotations, while working closely with the directors and wider team.
Initially, the role will be predominantly office-based, with the opportunity to become more involved in site surveys and client meetings as your knowledge of the business develops.
Key ResponsibilitiesReviewing tender enquiries, drawings and specifications
Completing detailed material and labour take-offs
Preparing accurate estimates and quotations
Obtaining and reviewing supplier/subcontractor costs
Identifying potential risks, omissions and commercial considerations
Liaising with the team to understand project requirements
Supporting site surveys and client visits where required
Developing relationships with suppliers and clients
Ensuring tenders are completed accurately and within deadlines
Supporting other areas of the business when required
We're looking for someone with previous electrical estimating experience, ideally with a good understanding of electrical projects and tendering.
You’ll need to be someone who:
Has previous estimating experience within an electrical/contracting environment
Can confidently interpret drawings and specifications
Has excellent attention to detail
Can work independently and manage their own workload
Is commercially aware and understands the importance of accurate pricing
Is comfortable working in a busy, varied environment
Is proactive and willing to get involved outside of a narrow job description
Has good communication skills and can build relationships with clients and suppliers
Is happy to attend sites when required
