Job Summary

Applications are invited for the position of Consultant Physician in General Medicine within the Diabetes and Endocrinology team. This is an exciting opportunity to join our busy and visionary department and to participate in the continuing development and success of the service. The post will have a greater GIM focus than the standard JD, and we welcome interested candidates to discuss the role in more detail.

The candidate will be expected to integrate within the team of seven existing consultants to provide a complete and high‑quality service, supporting the Diabetes and Endocrinology team with a focus on the GIM wards and some clinics.

Main Duties of the Job
  • Care of general medical emergencies referred by General Practitioners and ED, including on‑call and post‑take ward rounds as directed by the Clinical Director.
  • Ward rounds for inpatient care.
  • Review and advise on the management of in‑patients referred by other specialists within the hospital.
  • Specialist and General Medical Outpatient clinics.
  • Close liaison with primary care to further develop diabetes care in the community.
  • Teaching of medical students and doctors in training.
  • Audit, CPD, Clinical Governance and annual appraisal.
  • Develop and promote evidence‑based practice and guidelines.
  • Multidisciplinary team working and leadership.
  • Relevant participation in management.
  • Research activity.
  • Other appropriate duties and responsibilities.
About Us

The Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust provides services to West Cheshire and to Welsh patients covered by Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board.   • MRCP and ALS
  • SCE in Diabetes and Endocrinology
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register for General Internal Medicine and Diabetes and Endocrinology
  • CCT (proposed CCT date within 6 months of interview)
  • CESR
Desirable Qualifications
  • MD/MSc/PhD
Essential Experience
  • Wide clinical experience in Endocrinology & Diabetes and also General Internal Medicine
  • Experience / Interest in teaching
  • Demonstration of clinical audit within the service
  • Evidence base to practice
Desirable Experience
  • Recognised teaching skill course or qualification
  • Relevant experience in undertaking and organisation of audit
  • Research and publications relevant to post; clinical trials experience
  • Undertaken any relevant management courses
