Mentoring Project Assistant

The Careers and Employability team at the University of Chester is a dynamic, student-focused department committed to empowering every student to thrive in their career journey. We work collaboratively across the University and with external partners to deliver innovative programmes that support transition into university, career readiness, enterprise, skill development, volunteering, and graduate success.

Responsibilities

The post holder will support the effective delivery and ongoing development of our mentoring initiatives, including the University's central Peer Mentoring Scheme and Career Mentoring. The role plays an important part in supporting student transition and belonging by encouraging engagement from students from across the university including under‑represented groups in line with the University's Access and Participation Plan.

The post holder will help to coordinate the day-to-day running of mentoring schemes, including managing mentor‑mentee matching through our designated platform, preparing and sending communications and keeping accurate records and documentation. The post holder will support the recruitment, onboarding and engagement of mentors and mentees, contribute to the design and delivery of training and events and help to promote opportunities through channels such as Career Hub, social media, web content, digital newsletters and presentations.

The post holder will also assist with monitoring engagement, gathering feedback and supporting evaluation and reporting so that we can continue to improve the schemes and demonstrate impact.

Qualifications

The post holder should have relevant administrative experience, preferably in a Higher Education or student‑services environment and experience of supporting events, training sessions or workshops. They will be confident working with and supporting students, recent graduates or young people, with strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to engage effectively with a wide range of stakeholders. Strong IT skills, excellent organisation and time management, attention to detail and the ability to plan and prioritise their own workload while working both independently and as part of a team are essential.

A strong understanding of the varied needs of a diverse student body and a professional, inclusive and empathetic approach in all interactions, is also key to this role.

Benefits

As part of the Student Success Team, you'll join a supportive, forward‑thinking team that values creativity, inclusivity, and impact. We're proud to contribute to the University's strategic priorities around student experience, civic engagement, and employability - and we'd love for you to be part of it.
