Salary: £25,000 – £28,000 per annum (depending on experience and qualifications)
Hours: Full-time (Term time only)
Location: Chester and Cheshire Area

The HyFlex Academy is a specialised educational provision for young people aged 11-19 with Special Educational Needs, behavioural challenges, and Children Looked After (CLA). The HyFlex Academy, part of The Greenhouse Learning and Development Ltd, creates sustainable educational pathways through our adaptable curriculum and flexible learning approach.
We collaborate closely with Local Authorities to support students who cannot attend mainstream education or have experienced educational gaps. Our unique learning environment provides both mandatory subjects and engaging alternatives designed to reconnect students with learning.
What sets us apart is our commitment to consistency. Students can continue their journey in our Specialist Post 16 Institution beyond age 16, providing a seamless transition that has proven successful for our learners.
At The HyFlex Academy, we understand the complex needs of our students and are dedicated to providing an education that truly makes a difference in our lives. As we expand to help provide outcome focused education to those who need it most, we are looking for an SEN/SEMH HLTA to join our growing team and help build this exciting new provision.
Role OverviewWe are seeking a dedicated and compassionate High Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join our team. This is a vital role supporting young people with SEMH and SEN in their educational journey. You will work closely with teachers and other support staff to deliver high-quality education and pastoral care in a specialist setting.
The ideal candidate will have experience working with children and young people in an alternative provision or independent special school setting, demonstrating patience, resilience, and a genuine commitment to making a difference in the lives of our students.
Key ResponsibilitiesTeaching and Learning
- Support students with SEMH and SEN needs in their learning, both in classroom settings and through 1:1 or small group interventions
- Assist teachers in planning, preparing, and delivering engaging lessons, workshops and activities tailored to individual student needs
- Implement behaviour management strategies consistent with The Greenhouse’s approach, promoting positive behaviour and de‑escalating challenging situations
- Build trusting relationships with students, acting as a positive role model and providing emotional support
- Monitor and track student progress, providing feedback to teachers and contributing to assessments and reports
- Support students’ social and emotional development, helping them develop coping strategies and self‑regulation skills
- Work collaboratively with the wider team, including teachers, therapists, and external agencies, to ensure a holistic approach to student support
- Assist with personal care needs where required, maintaining dignity and respect at all times
- Contribute to creating a safe, inclusive, and stimulating learning environment
- Maintain accurate records and contribute to Individual Education Plans and other documentation as required
- Undertake safeguarding responsibilities in line with school policies and statutory requirements
Essential Requirements
- HLTA qualification
- Level 2 or above qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning, or equivalent experience
- Willingness to undertake relevant training, including Team Teach or equivalent positive behaviour management training
- Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one)
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
- Level 3 or higher qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning or a related field
- Training in trauma‑informed practice or attachment awareness
- Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and experience working within a safeguarding framework
