Job Description – Electrical Maintenance Engineer / Supervisor
Location:
North West/ North Midlands(Site-Based)
We are looking for an experienced Electrical Maintenance Engineer / Supervisor to join a engineering team responsible for maintaining and improving manufacturing and production equipment. This is a hands‑on role that combines electrical maintenance with team supervision, ensuring maximum equipment uptime, safe working practices, and continuous improvement across the site. The successful candidate will have strong electrical fault‑finding skills, experience working with PLC‑controlled machinery, and the ability to lead and support a team of maintenance engineers.
Responsibilities- Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance on production machinery and plant equipment.
- Diagnose and rectify electrical faults quickly to minimise downtime.
- Perform electrical fault finding using wiring diagrams, test equipment, and diagnostic tools.
- Support the maintenance and troubleshooting of PLC‑controlled systems, identifying faults and assisting with basic PLC diagnostics and modifications where required.
- Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of the maintenance team, ensuring work is completed safely and efficiently.
- Allocate maintenance tasks and provide technical guidance and mentoring to engineers.
- Ensure all maintenance activities comply with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Work closely with production teams to maximise machine availability and performance.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to improve equipment reliability and reduce downtime.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records using a CMMS or maintenance management system.
- Liaise with external contractors and equipment suppliers when required.
- Assist with machinery installations, upgrades, and commissioning projects.
- Time‑served Electrical Maintenance Engineer with recognised engineering qualifications (NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, HNC/HND, or equivalent).
- Previous experience in a manufacturing, FMCG, automated warehousing, logistics, or industrial environment.
- Strong electrical fault‑finding experience on industrial machinery.
- Good understanding of PLC‑controlled equipment (Siemens, Allen Bradley/Rockwell, Mitsubishi, Omron, or similar).
- Ability to diagnose PLC‑related faults and work alongside controls engineers where necessary.
- Experience with motors, drives, inverters, sensors, relays, contractors, and control panels.
- Previous supervisory or team leader experience is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of planned preventative maintenance systems.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and prioritise workloads effectively.
- 18th Edition Wiring Regulations.
- Experience with variable speed drives (VSDs) and servo systems.
- Knowledge of automation systems, conveyors, robotics, or packaging machinery.
- Experience using CMMS software.
- Continuous improvement or Lean Manufacturing experience.
