Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Band 7 Cognitive Behavioural Therapist (CBT) to join our Children and Young People's Mental Health Service (CYPMHS). This role offers an exciting opportunity to deliver evidence-based CBT interventions to children and young people (aged 0‑18) with complex mental health needs including anxiety, depression, trauma, and emotional dysregulation. You will be a key part of a multi‑disciplinary team, providing specialist therapeutic care and supporting the mental health recovery of young people while contributing to service development initiatives, ensuring that the CBT service remains aligned with current evidence‑based practice and the needs of the local population.

Main Duties of the Job

The post holder will be responsible for supporting the delivery of evidence-based CBT interventions to children and young people up to 18. The caseload will involve young people presenting with moderate to severe mental health difficulties and moderate to high levels of complexity. The post holder will work closely with senior clinical staff to enhance the quality and effectiveness of individual CBT‑informed interventions, support staff development through supervision, training and consultation, and promote the application of CBT principles across clinical work.

The post-holder will be based at the Marsden House in Chester.

Person Specification Essential Qualifications
  • Post graduate qualification in CBT.
  • BABCP accredited or BABCP‑acquirable and working towards accreditation within the first year of employment.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development as recommended by the BABCP.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Core mental health profession, registered with appropriate regulatory body (e.g., HCPC, NMC).
  • Specialist clinical skills for working with children & young people who have experienced complex trauma.
  • Training in another psychological therapy (e.g., EMDR, family intervention).
  • Post graduate qualification in clinical supervision.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and use of research methodology.
  • Demonstrate professional activity via conference presentation, teaching experience, publication or similar.
Essential Knowledge and Expertise
  • Expert knowledge of the cognitive behavioural model and disorder‑specific CBT interventions.
  • Expertise in formulating and applying CBT models to the individual young person and their carers.
