A parent is seeking a Personal Care Assistant to support their teenage son who has additional needs, including visual impairment, mobility difficulties, and communication differences. The family is looking for someone who can provide social support and enable access to community-based activities whilst promoting independence, safety, and wellbeing.

The successful Personal Assistant will:
- Ensure the individual's safety at all times due to mobility and visual impairment needs
- Support access to community activities and social opportunities
- Accompany the young person to leisure activities, particularly swimming sessions
- Promote independence and reduce social isolation
- Provide supervision and support whilst out in the community
- Assist with some personal care tasks
- Support communication and understanding through consistent approaches

Hours of work:
Up to 10 hours per week. Saturday afternoons are preferable (approximately 1:30pm to 3:30pm/4:00pm)
Rate of pay: £16 per hour
Skills, qualifications, and experience- Experience supporting individuals with visual impairments.
- Knowledge or experience of Makaton or alternative communication methods.
- Understanding of sensory needs
- Experience supporting children with mobility difficulties
- Experience supporting disabled children or young people with additional needs
- PA must be aware of symptoms of a blocked shunt
- Full UK driving licence
- Enhanced DBS check or willingness to obtain one
- Ability to provide safe, compassionate and person-centred support
- Reliable, trustworthy, and flexible approach
Successful applicants will require DBS checks & Employment References.
This role is funded by the Local Authority and is paid 4 weekly.
