We are currently recruiting for a number of Production Support Technicians to join one of the UKs leading rail rolling stock companies at their Chester depot. This is an exciting opportunity to secure a long-term contract with excellent rates of pay, working on one of the UKs newest passenger train fleets.

If you're an experienced engineering technician looking to develop your career within the rail sector, this role offers the opportunity to work on fleet improvements, vehicle modifications and overhaul projects that make a real difference to train reliability and performance.

Shift Patterns Available

We have vacancies across the following shift patterns:

  • 1 position:
    Monday to Thursday, 7:30am - 5:30pm
  • 4 positions:
    Monday to Friday rotating shifts:
    • Earlies: 7:30am - 3:30pm
    • Lates: 2:00pm - 10:00pm
The Role

As a Production Support Technician, you will play a key role in improving the reliability and availability of the Class 197 fleet through planned modification programmes, overhaul activities and repair work.

Working as part of a highly skilled production team, you will carry out a wide variety of engineering tasks across electrical, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems while ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently and to the highest quality standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out mechanical and electrical modification programmes on rolling stock vehicles.
  • Complete fleet campaign work in line with engineering instructions, technical drawings and electrical schematics.
  • Diagnose faults and undertake repairs resulting from damage, defects or vandalism.
  • Complete overhaul and Vehicle Maintenance Instruction (VMI) activities.
  • Strip and refit train interiors as part of modification programmes.
  • Install new equipment, components and cable looms, including cable routing and crimping.
  • Modify vehicle structures and carry out functional testing of installed equipment.
  • Work on mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and production improvement plans.
  • Assist other production activities when required to meet operational demands.
  • Occasionally travel to designated depots to support fleet activities
