Position: Regional Buyer (Yorkshire)

Overview

Jones Homes (Yorkshire) Ltd are recruiting for a Regional Buyer for our developments across Yorkshire/Chesterfield.

Location:
Cleckheaton,

Based at Jones Homes Yorkshire’s regional headquarters in Cleckheaton, , the Regional Buyer will provide a vital link between site teams, suppliers, technical team, land team, and the senior leadership team for the division.

The role will involve attending site visits and supplier meetings, and proactively sourcing new local suppliers to ensure Jones Homes offers an unrivalled level of support to the communities where it builds.

The successful candidate will have a meticulous approach, creating and updating assessments, reports, and tender schedules to provide visibility of all costs associated with the build at every stage.

They will provide monthly assessments of materials on sites and ensure costs are controlled in all circumstances.

Excellent communication and negotiation skills will be required to manage a variety of relationships throughout the build process across up to eight live developments.

Key Tasks

Day to Day

Activities:

  • Assisting with and negotiating price increases, deal terms and rebates to ensure optimum procurement efficiencies
  • Communicating out deals with other Regional Buyers
  • Producing tender documents, analysing tenders and appointing suppliers
  • Understanding and keeping up with new trends and regulations in the business
  • Building strong working relationships both internally and with key suppliers
  • Providing support to the commercial function ensuring effective compliance and control in relation to the buying of materials and the hire of plant
  • Assisting in the management of supply chain partners
  • Ensuring that communication between all sites and suppliers is maintained to a high level
  • Ensuring that all material orders are scheduled, placed and delivered in a timely manner to enable and support the regional build programme
  • Stock taking of materials
  • Assisting in the authorising and committing of expenditure
  • Assisting in the preparation of cost analysis reports across our developments
  • Resolve invoice queries with our Accounts department/Suppliers
  • Attend internal & site pre-start meetings
  • Check Architects/Engineers drawings for discrepancies and compliance with the required material specification. Thereafter resolving any queries with the relevant consultants/Technical department.
  • Ensure correct specifications are being used

Knowledge & Specific Job

Skills:

  • HNC/D in Construction based subject
  • Full Driving Licence
  • Excellent time management and organisation skills
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety related issues
  • Computer literate in the use of COINS and Microsoft Office (this is essential)

  • 5 years minimum in a buyers role or similar
