Job Title: Director, Operational Accounting & Analysis

Department: Finance/Accounting

Reports To: Chief Financial Officer

FLSA Status: Exempt

Travel: Required 20% in first 6 months; thereafter, expected 15% or less

Job Summary Must possess outstanding analytical skills, strong communication skills (both verbal and written) and a proven problem‑solving capability. Maintains relationships with Operations leadership team on site performance and process improvement. Manage the process of costing for company. Ensure accuracy of cost data and adherence to standard financial processes. Responsible for preparation of various financial activities including inventory accuracy and capital expenditures, as well as, data gathering, planning, and reporting.

Contribute to the annual budget process, the periodic forecast process, and other initiatives as they arise. Have the skills and confidence not only to contribute but to own processes and analyses. Self‑motivated, goal‑oriented, and enthusiastic presence in a team environment with the ability to lead and influence others.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Designs proactive processes to support the business.
  • Builds capability and capacity within team to deliver results.
  • Designs monthly analyses of the plants’ financial results. Interact proactively with the Operations leadership to identify factors that would enhance the plant’s profitability.
  • Provide insights into financial data to help guide decision making.
  • Partner with cross-functional team on the preparation of the annual budget and periodic forecasts while setting guidance for Multi‑site Controllers to work with Plant Managers.
  • Set policy on preparation of capital requests including quantifying savings projects and ability to audit results. Ensure correct classification of capital versus expense and analyze spending versus plan and report out findings.
  • Manage physical inventory process. Help develop and implement a robust cycle counting program. Report / analyze results of cycle counts prepared by operations personnel.
  • Partner with cross‑functional leadership to identify and implement cost accounting system design improvements, solutions to process constraints, and estimates for costs incurred over an asset’s useful life.
  • Coordinate with Corporate Controller to ensure month‑end close is completed timely. Partner with Shared Services on issues with accounts payable, billing, payroll, or general ledger issues.
  • Prepare financial analysis, plans, studies, and presentations as required for management.
  • Serves as a liaison with internal and external auditors as well as managing various audit activities throughout the year.
  • Ensure plant activities are compliant with company policies and US GAAP.
  • Demonstrate teamwork by collaborating with others to improve overall standards of performance and service through continuous improvement activities.
  • Travel to various sites as needed to learn and contribute to the success of the position.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Education Requirement/Work Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required in accounting or finance.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive accounting experience in a manufacturing environment. Management experience required.
  • Manufacturing industry experience preferred.

Computer Skills

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should be proficient with Microsoft Office -- MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Net Suite.
